that's what we naed to educate ourselves on. as i've said and if i have identified all the different players, it does take a village to raise our kids. it does require us to understand not only what happens in the classroom, what happens on the school grounds, what happens in programs that we all cherish so much on and off our school sites, it's online and it's off-line that we also have to concern ourselves with. it is with kids that have both parents and kids without the parents at home that it's happening. we need to embrace a full court program on this because the numbers tell us and dictate to us that we have to have this high level strong fierce collaboration to end bullying and to make sure it doesn't proceed into its worst stages. and so i want to just thank everyone for this collaboration, i know our human rights commission, theresa, is here, i know commissioner is here as well and all of the bay area to work together to utilize the resources that our justice department is offering. their guidance and leadership as well

why is girls education so important? i've gone to the extent now where i say you can drop bombs and build roads or put in electricity but until the girls are implicated, society won't change. several global studies show if you educate a girl to fifth grade level it does three things. reduce infant mortality, population explosion reduction and improve the quality of life and health. if your interested you can look up a guy called, well he wrote a book called development is freedom. it's a fat book. in the 60's another writer had the very foresite to see that girls education would be a process to bring about stabilization of population. he wrote a book called the poverty curve and jeffery sacks wrote the end of poverty in bangladesh a great example, they introduced 35 years ago to do a campaign to get all women and men or boys literate. it was 22% and today it's more than 75 percent if you look at a demographic curve with the population, you can see it's just starting to reach an apex in bangladesh. they're way ahead of in

they want to be educated. we worked out some of the plans for -- because i met with the college trustees and i will be meeting with them again on thursday. there are a lot of promises have been made to the trustees about what puc would do, but nothing has been done. and what i'm here is to talk about -- to see that things get started because school starts next monday. and i've asked one of the trustees to come and speak with you also on public comment. and the other concern that i have, great concern, is that the college itself. the college had 33,000 square feet of space when they opened up in 1986. now, because of some politicking and playing went on, they are down to 17,000 feet, square feet. that college should be all 33,000 square feet for the classes that we had that was given to other colleges. and the programs are coming back. i've talked with of the trustees and they are willing and their sending some of our programs back, and they all are coming back and we want an addition of services in my communit

as an educator i joined the team to oversee the portfolio of education and was given the opportunity to implement the country's education strategic plan over the southwest provinces. additionally i was given the national action plan for women and control of two female engagement teams which were marines trained to interact with the population of women because of the pashi culture, the males were not allowed to interact with the women. in order obviously to ensure communities stay strong you have to not only address the men, but you absolutely need to address the women. so we created the female engagement team. with our interagency partners, the u.s. department of state, danish and british governments and of course the afghans, additionally we reached out to the private sector for partnerships, and not for profits to deliver things that we weren't capable of delivering or to cover gaps that arose as we implemented the plan. we implemented the plan through 17 teams through helman and our two female engagement teams. this is actually just scrolling pictures. sometimes a picture says a t
